S&P Global continues Kenosha County’s top-tier AAA bond rating
For the sixth consecutive year, Kenosha County has received a AAA bond rating from S&P Global Ratings, County Executive Samantha Kerkman announced today.
This top-level rating is a result of the county’s strong fiscal condition and outlook, and it ultimately benefits taxpayers, Kerkman said.
“As S&P noted in its report, our AAA rating is supported by our healthy reserve funds, prudent financial management practices, and the continued strong economic growth trends in our region,” Kerkman said. “We continue to be one of just seven Wisconsin counties to hold AAA status from a major rating agency, and it wouldn’t be possible without the strong work of our Finance team and the County Board.”
Along with the AAA rating, S&P issued a stable outlook, which, the report states, “reflects our view that Kenosha County’s strong operational trends will continue, aided by robust management practices and ongoing economic growth.”
County Board Chairman Mark Nordigian said the AAA rating is evidence of the county’s continued commitment to responsible fiscal management, long-term planning, and sound budget practices. He added that it demonstrates to residents, businesses and investors that Kenosha County remains in a strong financial position while continuing to provide high-quality services.
“This achievement is the result of a team effort,” Nordigian said. “I would like to thank our County Executive, Finance Department, department leaders, staff, and my fellow County Board Supervisors for their dedication to maintaining the fiscal discipline that has earned this recognition. Their hard work and commitment to serving the people of Kenosha County make accomplishments like this possible.”
Nordigian noted that maintaining a AAA bond rating allows the county to borrow funds for major projects at the most favorable interest rates, saving taxpayer dollars while supporting investments in infrastructure, public safety, and other essential services.
Supervisor Dave Geertsen, chairman of the County Board’s Finance and Administration Committee, also celebrated the continuation of the AAA rating.
“Congratulations to County Executive Kerkman, her administrative team, Chairman Nordigian and the County Board for supporting and doing the hard work it takes to achieve fiscal excellence,” Geertsen said. “This AAA rating saves millions for our community and signals worldwide that Kenosha County is a sound and stable place to work and raise our families.”
Kerkman credited the team of county Finance Director Patricia Merrill, Budget Director Barna Bencs and Assistant Budget Director Matthew Leys, as well as the Kenosha Area Business Alliance for its ongoing work to champion economic development activity that has been key to maintaining the AAA rating.
Nordigian said that, as County Board Chair, he remains committed to working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure the county continues to make responsible financial decisions that protect taxpayers and position Kenosha County for continued success.
“This reaffirmed AAA rating is something every resident of Kenosha County can take pride in,” Nordigian said, “and it reinforces our shared commitment to keeping Kenosha County financially strong for today and for future generations."
